So I've signed up for the ACT test and the S.A.T test. Now I'm debating of what colleges I want to get into. I hope i do well on one of these test cuz my GPA isn't what i'd like it to be, like it's in the 3 point range but when I moved to the states, the credits I had in Canada transfered and since the grading system here is a bit different, my GPA is lower than my expectations. Plus I fucked around a lot first 2 years of high school so sure that didn't help either..but anyways, any of you guys out there took the SAT or ACT test yet? if so how'd you do, and how was it for you? as for colleges, did you apply yet and get excepted to the ones you wanted?
LOL i would kill to get into like Harverd, Prinston or yale, hell any of those schools but for that matter but doubt that's gonna happen. but it's all cool! It'd sure make me feel like I'm doing something with my life or something but one could dream rite? lol I haven't heard of any blind people going to schools like that, but I'm curious as to any made it to any of them? Anyways, if your in college, how was it when you first got there and how's it for you now? I'm a junior now which means I still have another year, but i guess it really hit me today when I was signing up for tests and shit like that, and when they said i have to start applying near the beginning of next school year, that I'll be out of high school soon and into the bigger world i guess lol.
Ok anyways this topic was muuuch longer than i intended it to be, but I'm bored and curious so yeah..holla!
I have a friend at Harvard who's blind. So it can be done.:)
As for the SAT's, the format has changed significantly since I took them, so I can't provide much insight there. Although I will share this anecdote. The old SAT was based on a scale of 1600 (800 for ath and 800 for verbal). I took the test once and scored right in the median range for my dream school. Ended up hating that school and transferred out after two years and applied to schools I never could've gotten into straight out of high school. My SAT score was far below the average score for the school I'm at now (NYU), but I got in anyway. Point being that SAT's or ACT's are a relatively small part of your application. It's the essay and extracurriculars that set you apart. Good luck.:)
extra curiculars? lol what if you don't do shit afterschool or anything like that. cuz rite now i don't..lol
Do you work? Have any hobbies? Getting into college nowadays is more than just the grades and test scores. you have to stand out as an applicant.
In general, you need to be a "well-rounded student." the truth is it's almost like a game--you're selling yourself to the college, they know it, thus they in turn try to sell themselves to you. At the very selective universities, grades and SAT scores matter, and all the extra stuff won't matter If you make straight D's or F's. Yet most colleges also want students who not only have high scores but also have outside interests. the SAT isn't as bad as it's made out to be. to get into relatively selective universities you should aim for a score above a 17 or 1800, which in turn means averaging somewhere around a 600 on each of the three subscores (But of course, this is in general; plenty of people are exceptions to the rules.)
